Let’s take a look under the hood of our new playmate
A RockChip RK3326 with four cores is used as the CPU. The ARM 64-bit Cortex-A35 clocks with 1.3Ghz. A Mali-G31 MP2, which even supports OpenGL and VULKAN and handles chip-native anti-aliasing, takes care of the retropixels. A sufficiently fast data reservoir is provided by 1GB DDR3L working memory, which is connected with 32 bits and ticks with 786Mhz. Space for the operating system and games is provided by the MicroSD card, which can vary in size depending on preference (I tested 32GB, 64GB and 128GB).
An absolute highlight in this portable gaming system is the display: It resolves with 854×480 pixels and has a diagonal of 5 inches. The colors are very dynamic and the display is razor-sharp. The only drawback, however, is the bleeding of the lighting. When playing with low ambient light, you can see a significant increase in brightness between the display segment and the case at the very edge of the display. The integrated loudspeaker with an impedance of 8 ohms is not the only (somewhat squeaky) sound for the ears; a 3.5 mm stereo jack is also on board.
The battery can be fully charged in about three to four hours with a sufficiently potent charger with a nominal voltage of 5 volts and then lasts up to five hours in hard gaming use. For the action itself, we have two small analog sticks, a directional pad, six buttons on the front and four shoulder buttons. The lower rubber buttons on the front are for dimming the display. Handcore users have access to GPIO pins on the top of the case. Here are the specs clearly arranged in a table:
