Teardown: The cooler
The backplate on the rear is stupidly screwed on from the top of the board, which made disassembly a little more complicated. You can’t get to it without removing the cooler.
If you remove this backplate, the back of the board is exposed. And anyone who reads my articles carefully will once again wonder why the pads were used for thermal relief of the RAM and not the voltage converters on the back of the board. Something like this would actually always be useful. It would only have been necessary to place the pads somewhere else. We will see in the infrared test why I am criticizing this. Mod incoming?
The rest of the story is quickly told. A solid copper heatsink is used instead of the usual vapor-chamber and a total of seven (!) nickel-plated heatpipes. But I’ll refer you to the next page, because this time there will also be a material analysis, which didn’t come as a big surprise. By the way, the pads used here are ok, i.e. ultra-soft and relatively thick, but also a little too thick for my taste. So please read on with interest!
The three fans have a rotor diameter of 9 cm and all three rely on 7 steeply pitched rotor blades with a slightly higher volume flow. This explains the principle well enough, as it is basically the same cooler.
