According to a recently released roadmap, announced during the ML Commons training results presentation and published by HardwareLuxx, NVIDIA has revealed the expected launch schedule for its next-generation GPUs and CPUs. The roadmap shows that NVIDIA has already confirmed that the Hopper Next GPUs, also known as Blackwell, will launch in 2024. This information comes from the aforementioned sources and may offer further insight into NVIDIA’s future plans.
Blackwell, also known as Hopper Next, is expected to focus primarily on high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI). It is expected to be a GPU architecture designed specifically for these applications. As the successor to the current gaming GPUs, the architecture is being traded as “Ada Lovelace-Next” for gaming enthusiasts. The expected launch of these gaming GPUs is in 2025, a year after the launch of Hopper-Next.
It is important to note that NVIDIA will nevertheless continue to offer products for gamers in its current product lineup. There is a possibility that the company is planning updates and enhancements to its existing gaming GPUs to continue to provide attractive options for gamers in 2024. So NVIDIA will continue to be a relevant player in the gaming space.
Currently, NVIDIA has the RTX 4090 as the fastest graphics card on the market. Since there is no direct competition in this segment, the company is not planning to release an RTX 4090 Ti for now. However, upgrades for the RTX 4090, AD103, AD104 and AD106 cards can be expected next year in the form of “Ti” or “SUPER” versions with higher core counts and larger VRAM. The RTX 4080 will be based on a trimmed-down AD103 chip, while the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti will be powered by the AD106 chip.
These chips could be used in a full version with higher clock speeds and faster memory to offer a significant performance boost in mid-2024 before NVIDIA introduces an entirely new architecture for gamers in 2025. In addition to GPUs, NVIDIA is also working on developing the Grace Next CPU architecture, which is based on Arm cores and announced for 2025. This suggests that NVIDIA will position its current and refreshed Ada Lovelace GPUs in competition with AMD’s upcoming Radeon RX 8000 series RDNA 4 graphics cards, which are also expected to launch next year. Furthermore, Intel is planning to launch their Battlemage GPUs in the same timeframe.
