And the groundhog always says hello, or rather the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti. The latest rumor is that NVIDIA has postponed the launch of the new card by one (more) month from April to May. Among others, ITHome also reports on this shift, but without going into more detail about possible reasons. At least this is also in line with the (missing) activities of the board partners, whose effects can usually be observed 3 to 4 weeks before a launch. Here, however, is currently still completely calm before the storm, so that one can assume that at least in mid-April still no launch should take place. You can ask whoever you want – nothing.
Of course, we can only speculate if the supply problems with the GPUs are one of the main reasons, but it would be plausible. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is said to use the same chip as the RTX 3090, but with 12GB of GDDR6X, it only has half the amount of memory, but uses the same 384-bit interface as the RTX 3090. The expected number of stream processors is currently given as 10496. Depending on the clock and power limit, a card like this should be able to catch up with the GeForce RTX 3090 with a gap in the low single-digit percentage range.
If one assumes that these cards with double the memory configuration could also pass as a (then slightly more expensive) RTX 3090, then it would also be possible to conclude here that NVIDIA is planning a kind of replacement for the RTX 3090 from the supposed gap filler between the GeForce RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 due to a pure lack of memory. Speculation and rumor, but not even that far-fetched. And what are we left with in the meantime? Put your feet up and continue to wait patiently!
