Grayscale, color fidelity, saturation and gamut to factory settings
The Cooler Master GP27U and GP27Q are primarily advertised as gaming monitors, but they definitely have more to offer. This already becomes clear when you take a closer look at the equipment list. Everything from sRGB to DCI-P3 to Adobe RGB is supposed to be found behind the panel. Let’s have a look then.
Color space coverage
There’s actually something going on here. The AU-Optronics panel delivers – thanks to the Quantum Dots – quite well. I have two GP27U here and I can tell you that if you’re lucky in the panel lottery, you’ll get up to 87% Rec. 2020 coverage.
Gray Scale, Saturation, ColorChecker @ Default Setting
Since the panel runs in Rec. 2020 color space by default, my measurement results in terms of sRGB are poor, as expected. But Cooler Master has given the GP27U factory calibrations for sRGB, DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB.
Gray Scale, Saturation, ColorChecker @ sRGB
Still usable, at least that’s how I see it. Big issue: the white point.
Additional second opinion using DisplayCal and ColorChecker Studio (spectrophotometer).
Measurement Report 3.8.9.3 – GP27-FUS @ 0, 0, 3840×2160 – 2023-05-17 13-49 sRGB
Gamut, Gray Scale, Saturation, ColorChecker @ DCI-P3
The white point continues to drift and the gamma tracking gets worse. The original factory calibration has been slightly damaged by the firmware updates.

Gamut, Gray Scale, Saturation, ColorChecker @ Adobe RGB
So, the factory calibration for Adobe RGB suffered among the most.

Unfortunately, my test sample can’t quite keep the promised factory calibrations with delta error smaller than 2. Since Cooler Master has meanwhile gotten a grip on its firmware, such deviations should no longer occur with new models. I can’t guarantee that at this point, but I am at least convinced of it.
In case of doubt, there is still plan B. I’ll show you how easy it is to calibrate the Cooler Master GP27U again using the Adobe RGB mode. Before that, you can see the direct comparison to the other monitors and the brightness measurements in SDR on the next page.
