Grayscale, color fidelity, saturation and gamut at factory settings
What can you expect in terms of color performance when you don’t even have to pay 100 euros for the monitor? Good question, let’s take a look.
Color space coverage
You can’t expect more than sRGB coverage here. However, it is given in such a way that you can really do something with it. If you need P3 or Adobe RGB, you won’t find it here. But that was to be expected, because for less than 100 euros it would have been a sensation. It would be a waste of time to bore you with the other slides relating to P3 etc.
Gray Scale, Saturation, ColorChecker @ Default
Switch on the monitor, warm up and measure. That’s the procedure and in most cases you’ll be disappointed. This is because manufacturers generally release monitors with the widest possible color space coverage. This means that they are totally oversaturated in the standard color space and the color fidelity is not given. The small ASUS is different here.
Gray Scale, Saturation, ColorChecker @ OSD Color Space sRGB
Why did ASUS add a dedicated sRGB mode to the OSD of the VA24ECE? I have no idea! It wouldn’t have been necessary, especially as it’s only slightly better. The downside is that the user loses access to all settings in the OSD. Brightness, white point control etc. can no longer be adjusted. You have to live with the 160 nits and 7200 Kelvin. From my point of view – simply use the default mode and then adjust the white point to the D65. Let’s take another look in a moment.
