Measurement and sound check
Before we come to the verbal assessment, we first present the measuring curves of the two (out of three) sound profiles, which are not recommended to anyone and thus confidently also into the conscious ton… No, it's just nothing. While the THX profile is the slightly worse music profile and could make the Clearasil generation ecstatic…
THX sound profile: no real alternative
… the 3D profile has already reached the limit of what is tolerable. Apart from unmotivated wummation and hissing, you can hear nothing more and the guest turns with horror. You can't play with it any more than you can listen to music, and Kenny dies heroically again.
3D sound profile: Please do not, too much bass and hiss
Quite different from the acoustic near-death experience in the 3D sound profile is the music setting. Although the highs are still a bit too crispy and the bass puts on a little too much, but it is still far too good even for mainstream ratios. This sounds like a compliment and is also meant as such!
Misik sound profile: Can you leave it that way
The purely subjective listening experience is therefore good and in some areas again a little better than the curves suggested. One will subjectively not find the slight emphasis of the lower middles and the slightly too fat bass in this form disturbing. On the contrary, the basic range of almost all instruments has a very pleasant fullness and the very soft, but nevertheless not imprecise bass, still sets a foundation worth listening to. You don't just have to guess the low bass below 40 Hz, you even hear something. Only the lower areas of the sub-contifheave are then simply gone. Low-cut and insight into physical impossibility.
The smaller 100 Hz delle in the upper bass, where low-tone current and upper waters converge, can only be heard if you pay close attention to it, otherwise it is not so pronounced that you would have to get headaches. In addition, the two satellites still play along well enough up to less than 100 Hz.
The upper mids and lower heights are very balanced and well modeled; here, the satellite system has not been changed much. The upper heights start from approx. five KHz a little too concise, it already starts to hiss easily, which especially Sibilants and blow-out scoundues plays extremely in the foreground. The peak at approx. eight KHz makes the system appear very bright and crispy, which not everyone likes and also seems a little too exaggerated. We would interpret it as an easy way to the mainstream, Asians.
The dynamic range is quite neat, to which of course the relatively high amplifier power also contributes. The active switches do not afford any major weaknesses and the DSP remains subdued in the background. However, the input sensitivity is relatively low. We succeeded, for example, in not to get close to full control with a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge with both analog port and Bluetooth at all. We only managed to do this with our unlocked FiiO X1 and the Creative SoundblasterX G5.
The system is equally suitable for music and gaming, as well as being operated at a short distance (desktop) as well as in living rooms up to medium size. Therefore, this 2.1 loudspeaker combination can be recommended in good conscience, even if the price seems a little too high.
Conclusion
Nice to look at, good to use and unfortunately in the end far too expensive. Almost 500 euros is a lot of money, whereby the subwoofer then means an extra charge of almost 330 euros to the 2.0 system with 170 euros. For this you get other offers with similarly good performance. The tuning is good, even if two of the three sound profiles fall more into the Mickey Mouse category. What devalues a bit is the lack of sensitivity of the inputs on many mobile devices. Party is possible, but it would be quite louder.
High-quality in design and no less akurat in the design – here Edifier has impressively proved that you can not only stick (more or less attractive) wood decorative foil on angular MDF housings. In addition, the sound is also true, which will surprise many, because you don't really see it at first glance even on the Luna Eclipse 2.1.
The bottom line is that this pair of speakers is a sensation for all those who would like to have it a little unconventional and above all really conspicuous, without the actual functionality having to believe in it. So it would be nice and useful to work together quite well if the price were not there. 400 euros would certainly have been enough.
Per | Cons |
---|---|
– exceptional design – compact and space-saving satellites – Wirelessly connected subwoofer – balanced sound – Bluetooth 4.0 – automatic standby circuit |
– inappropriate sound profiles – a little too much overemphasis on the heights – non-valuable remote control – slightly too low input sensitivity – very high price |
