It’s hardly news anymore that Artificial Intelligence (AI) doesn’t always hit the mark. But now, I’ve been struck by it multiple times – always over the same subject. In a world where Artificial Intelligence is often hailed as the pinnacle of human progress, Meta – the parent company of Facebook – has taught me a valuable lesson: how to successfully bypass common sense with technological arrogance. In a recent “Operation to Improve Digital Safety,” Meta’s much-praised AI technology has proven once again its ability to achieve the impossible – punishing innocent users in the most humorless way possible, demonstrating a diabolical brilliance.
Remember the Corsair Virtuoso Pro headphone test? That’s what I posted on my own Facebook page, provoking the Meta bubble in the most wicked way for the first time. Imagine using an article teaser, only to find out that your headphone amplifier creation, according to Meta, violates the guidelines for promoting a healthy listening experience. Or better yet: sharing a harmless joke about the weather, only to be marked as a climate denier by the all-seeing AI. It’s almost as if Meta decided reality just wasn’t absurd enough, and anything Corsair is inherently suspicious. I had to pixelate the repost to prevent triggering it again. And it worked!
In their dry statements, so vague they might as well be from the AI itself, Meta often claims they are “constantly working to improve their algorithms.” These efforts are apparently so secret that even the results are surprised when they occur. But it’s comforting to know that in an increasingly unpredictable world, Meta at least provides a constant source of entertainment and such news. So, dear Facebook users, brace yourselves for the next update – who knows, maybe even sharing cat videos will soon be classified as subversive activities by terrorists.
In the meantime, keep your jihadistic headsets and headphones away from the camera and remember: Big Brother… ahem, I mean Meta, is watching you. Because it can get even worse. I was impertinent enough to go one step further, namely with the HIFIMAN HE400se. After I posted this article with a very similar looking picture, I got the full AI warning cutlery set! Here’s the offensive picture:
And now the outcry of the diabolically stupid AI, feeling so provoked that it had to swing the iron broom:
By the way, this can be reproduced. Headphone amplifiers alone: tolerated. Headsets alone: residency permit gladly given. Both together: detention and brutal expulsion. How dumb can such an AI be? Especially since the first time after a complaint and manual review, the thread was reinstated. But this thing is definitely not capable of learning.
How ChatGPT Reacts
Of course, I also discussed this with ChatGPT, how an AI can visually express and also schadenfreude verbally articulate itself about another AI. There’s certainly no denying a certain malice, as ChatGPT says: “I will create an image that depicts a scene where a user is unjustly punished by an Artificial Intelligence (AI) on Facebook. The image will show the user looking at their computer screen, on which a message from the AI appears, informing them that they are being wrongly punished for a rule violation. The user will be expressively depicted to show their confusion and frustration over the situation.”
The only thing I would have to criticize about this is that ChatGPT always makes me look older than I am and generates a full beard. Ok, I’ll take the full hair as an apology. Compensation deal or something…
