AMD’s new desktop CPUs of the Zen 5 generation, the Ryzen 5 9600X and the Ryzen 9 9950X, are currently a big topic. While the 6-core Ryzen 5 9600X is already showing a significant increase in performance compared to its predecessor in initial benchmarks, ASUS has set a new overclocking record with the Ryzen 9 9950X.
The Ryzen 5 9600X, which is considered the entry-level model of the new generation, was able to impress in the Cinebench R23 benchmark. Compared to the Ryzen 5 7600X, it shows an average performance increase of 10%. Significant progress can be seen in the single-core area in particular. The CPU achieved 16205 points in the multi-core test and 2160 points in the single-core test in standard mode. With PBO (Precision Boost Overdrive) enabled, the chip achieved 17037 points in the multi-core test and 2244 points in the single-core test, which represents an additional increase in performance.
ASUS has set a new Cinebench R23 record with the Ryzen 9 9950X under extreme conditions (LN2 cooling). The 16-core CPU achieved an impressive 55,000 points in the multi-thread test. This underlines the potential of the Zen 5 architecture for overclockers. The CPU has 16 cores and 32 threads, a base clock of 4.3 GHz and a maximum boost clock of up to 5.7 GHz. The cache is 80 MB in total, consisting of 64 MB L3 and 16 MB L2, with a TDP of 170W.

The first benchmarks and overclocking results are promising. Both the Ryzen 5 9600X and the Ryzen 9 9950X offer a significant increase in performance compared to their predecessors. It remains to be seen how the CPUs will perform in real applications and whether further records will be broken. In addition to Cinebench R23, the Ryzen 5 9600X was also tested in CPU-z, whereby only the standard profile was used here, which led to lower results. The Ryzen 5 9600X and the Ryzen 7 9700X will be launched on August 8, the Ryzen 9 9950X and the Ryzen 9 9900X on August 15.
AMD’s new Zen 5 CPUs offer impressive performance and are interesting for both gamers and professional users. The first benchmarks and overclocking results point to a new era of high-performance CPUs. It will be exciting to see how these processors prove themselves in practice and what further improvements and records will be achieved in the future.
