Nothing against leaks, because they satisfy everyone’s curiosity to a certain extent, on the contrary. As you know, I know that quite well myself. Much of this more current information also came from kopite7kimi and it was also the case that they seemed to contradict each other in sometimes rapid chronological succession. Now, you can of course rant at the sources, dismiss the leaks as pure speculation, or have the fun of checking the time of publication in more detail. Of course, this only works if you have your own good sources, which may be on a different level.
Things that initially look like a contradiction don’t have to be at all, then NVIDIA also still evaluates quite properly itself. Because while kopite7kimi now specifies the GeForce RTX 4070 with 10 GB memory expansion, that was 16 GB before. And I can confirm that this 16 GB card also existed (and still exists) as a test sample at the board partners (AIC). But it looks like NVIDIA has chosen the RTX 4070 to be the successor of the RTX 3080 and has reduced the RAM expansion significantly again. It’s a pity, but this trimmed test device also exists in the meantime.
Continue to update.

And now we come to what is rather invisible to most outsiders. On the one hand, it is certainly the content of kopite7kimi’s leaks, which are by no means wrong, but mostly arise from the flow and often do not describe a final product yet. On the other hand, and this is something I can follow up on, these leaks often appear a few hours or even days before the board partners’ briefings, or the AICs know this content only from hearsay behind closed doors.
However, this definitely rules out the possibility that the underlying sources of kopite7kimi are to be found directly at the AIC, but that the origin is to be found either in the R&D of the NVIDIA headquarters, or at least in the support of the Field Application Engineers (FAE). Individual FAEs, who are briefed only shortly beforehand, are also likely to be excluded, at least as far as Asia and the time zone there are concerned, because that would usually be too short notice. Especially since some of them were things that didn’t even make it to the board partners.
And also I throw my own 50 cents in the room once again for the conclusion. AIC now has the test samples in three product lines, although it is still the evaluation phase. But Ada is now real and also arrived at AIC days ago. Of course, this also confirms my predicted schedule, which I would like to remind you of once again:
We move, depending on the board partner, between DVT and WS, where I also predicted such leaks. Interestingly, the leak dates back to July 4 and kopite7kimi had the information with the 10 GB of the RTX 4070 even before the AIC, who of course always wonder where this information could have come from, if not from NVIDIA’s HQ itself. The WS phase is also supported by the fact that NVIDIA is currently working on possible problems with the firmware and the evaluation drivers, where not everything is supposed to run smoothly yet. The bottom line is that everything is going according to plan and it even looks like more than a week ahead. However, it can disappear again faster than NVIDIA would like if complications could arise. So it is better to work with a buffer than under false haste and thus even more pressure.
