Who would have thought that after all these years, Apple still hasn’t figured out how to produce enough phones to meet demand? It’s almost as if they’re doing it on purpose to increase excitement. Or maybe it’s a new marketing ploy: “Make it as rare as a unicorn, and the misguided lemmings will want it more!”. You know the last article and my experience with Media Markt, but surprisingly it goes even much bolder!
After all, there are the online stores that require payment in advance, but have no products at all. It’s a brilliant business strategy, even with ominous suppliers, really. Why bother with such pesky things as inventory levels or actual product availability when you can just take people’s money and then say, “Oh, sorry, we don’t have that product right now. But don’t worry, we’ll (have) it sent to you…. eventually.” It’s almost like they’re saying, “Thanks for the free loan!”
I just turned the tables after the drama at Media Markt and leisurely searched for the most brazen scam. Because the current example shows how something like this can be taken to the extreme even with obvious intent, hiding behind an anonymous “supplier”. Actually, the second part of the iPhone saga should already go online today, but I’m a fair person and give Galaxus (spoiler) one last chance to at least get my money back before Christmas. The rest goes today, depending on the reaction of the store, directly to the lawyer and the consumer center Saxony.
And of course we must not forget the scalpers. These modern Robin Hoods who buy products that no one else can get and then resell them at astronomical prices to the desperate masses. It’s so noble of them to make sure that only those who are really willing to pay an arm and a leg get the latest and greatest products. After all, the kidney is already in NVIDIA’s hands. Where would we be without it? Almost 400 euros extra for the unloved blue variant? Yesterday it was still 500 Euros for the white model. But it seems that someone really found a fool overnight.
Overall, it’s a wonderful mess of delivery problems, prepayment without products, and scalpers. It’s almost as if the tech industry wants to remind us all that patience really is a virtue. Or maybe it’s just a reminder that sometimes you should just wait until all the craziness is over before buying the latest and greatest gadget. Who knows?
