While I lie over the whole weekend in the last trains for something completely new and can therefore hardly look out of the eyes (or test something else), I leave you to today’s Sunday times quite deliberately a little perplexed. In fact, the scanning electron microscope has spit out some interesting structures, the actual use of which must be guessed today. Is this grandma’s cleaning agent for the family silver or something else entirely?
To simplify it a little bit: it is a corundum. The optical characteristics of corundum are a selten but strong luminescence. In our case, the corundum (or what is left of it) is rather dark and very round-grained. Incidentally, with a Mohs hardness of 9, corundum is one of the hardest minerals right after diamond and is insoluble in cold acids. Such a corundum is absolutely durable in air and can even last millions of years without damage if necessary. So, now it’s up to you, because I know. What do we see in the picture?
Have fun with the riddles, the solution is either in the forum by you or tomorrow morning by me. I like to be surprised… 🙂
