I admit it, I just couldn’t resist the headline. After all, it’s the weekend and a short rest between all the launch actions that are more than just getting to the substance. Of course, I’m not just sitting in the office writing articles all the time, there are other things going on in the depths of the lab that allow me to sort of counter-finance the rather restrained monetization of the website. Part of it is also participating in certain cooling developments in general and scanning boards to develop coolers in particular.
As I’m sure the teaser already told you, I’m currently living in somewhat different circumstances. If you’ve ever had a major road construction site right in front of your house that drags on for weeks, you might be able to relate. I can only make videos at night, and I have already had to transfer some of my working time to the night, because in addition to all the superficial noise, it is above all the partial-frequency vibrations that are disturbing.
Apropos vibrations, with it we would be then also again elegantly with the article topic arrived. I wrote that I scan circuit boards, so that there are later also proper water blocks to buy. My problem, however, is that the 3D scanner I use is a mechanical scanning scanner that uses a very fine needle and a good stepping mechanism to scan piece by piece of the board surface and thus create a sufficiently accurate height profile.

So this is what it normally looks like, but it still works in the build setup. The video above only gives a small impression, because the direct work in front of the house was infernally orchestrated. Besides a crack in one of the walls, the result of a 5-day-scan (yes, that’s how long it takes) shocked me. In the picture below, you can see the scanned board of the Gainward GeForce RTX 4090 Phantom GS, including lots of spikes that don’t belong in there like that.
It’s almost a seismographic profile and you can also see very nicely from the appearance when the gentlemen were full of creative energy, when there was a break and when they left the scene of the horror. Only to continue even louder the next morning shortly after 6:00 a.m., fully refueled with energy. I write this also somewhat unnerved, because it is now already the fifth (!) Road surface in the 16 years in which I live here and unfortunately already the second very large civil engineering action with sewerage, gas, water and sh.t…
It will certainly continue until the end of next week and it restricts one when working and the measurements of all kinds already properly. But there is no need to worry, I have to get through it now. Audio measurements during the day are also out of the question and the transport service providers and the delivery of samples are also not something you like to think about. Currently, I have to do everything on foot and also pick up in the far-flung package store. Pensioner Porsche FTW! From this point of view, the weekend is also a certain breather before the grand finale of the dredging madness begins on Monday.
