Owners of GeForce RTX 40 and RTX 30 GPUs can now enjoy video content with higher image quality. This is made possible by NVIDIA’s new technology announced last month: RTX Video Super Resolution. RVSR was supposed to be released in February (nothing happened at the beginning) and this promise is actually kept now.
NVIDIA released the driver that enables this technology in supported browsers like Chrome or Edge on the very last day of February doann. This technology will work for online content like YouTube, Twitch, Netflix, or Hulu, and RVSR even upscales the resolution to 5K screens. According to NVIDIA, however, video upscaling only works when it is manually enabled in the control panel. Users can find this option under Video > Customize Video Image Settings > RTX Video Enhancement. There you will find four quality settings (1-4). Level 4 is the highest and requires more GPU resources, the description says.
NVIDIA recommends Quality Mode 1 for all RTX 30/40 GPUs, but higher-end GPUs like the XX70-class and above will be able to play content at Level 4. NVIDIA has promised to support the RTX 20-series as well, but that is probably not something to expect anytime soon. The company says that the algorithm for the RTX 20 series needs to be “restructured” and that will take time.
