The energetic crowbar is not new and some board partners like to use it to put their own top models even higher on the pedestal. GALAX had already launched the RTX 4090 HOF and the RTX 4070 Ti HOF, but the RTX 4080 has been left out for some reason until now. Now the time has also come and GALAX is introducing not one, but three models based on the same design with the AD103 GPU. A whopping 470 watts are released here in the power limit, but do you really need something like that in this day and age?
We remember that the HOF series is somehow the hobbyhorse of GALAX. The HOF series is seen as a GPU for enthusiasts and it is designed for extreme overclocking. This is then also the main reason why these cards are usually first delivered to overclockers before they even appear on the market.
But now GALAX is launching three models. The naming might be confusing at first glance, so here’s a quick breakdown:
- GALAX GeForce RTX 4080 HOF OC LAB Plus-X: 2640 MHz boost, HOF Panel III
- GALAX GeForce RTX 4080 HOF OC LAB Plus: 2640 MHz boost
- GALAX GeForce RTX 4080 HOF OC LAB: 2595 MHz boost
We see Plus, Plus-X and the Non Plus models. The difference here is the clock frequency, because both Plus models have the highest clock (2640 MHz) and the Plus-X also gets the well-known GALAX HOF Panel III packed into the accessories. The non-plus model clocks with 2595 MHz and is thus the slowest model of the series. With a boost clock of 2640 MHz, the HOF is one of the fastest RTX 4080s on the market, but not the fastest. The highest clock for RTX 4080 GPUs to date can be found on ASUS’ ROG STRIX OC. It is shipped with a frequency of 2655 MHz, which is activated by the included OC software (not included).
GALAX confirms that the RTX 4080 HOF will have two BIOS settings, either silent or performance mode. In Silent mode, the clock rate is kept at the reference values of 2505 MHz and the TDP at 320W. In performance mode, the BIOS is set to a TDP of 400W, which can be adjusted up to 470W by manual overclocking. The company has not confirmed the price or release date, but all three models are now listed on the official website. These models are typically produced in small quantities and are therefore relatively hard to come by, especially at launch. Whether one then likes to afford such a thing is a matter of opinion.
