The first angled power adapters for RTX 40 GPUs are now commercially available and one user on Reddit has already purchased such a 12VHPWR adapter from modDIY and is already using it with his ASUS TUF RTX 4090. Of course, it solves the main problem with the original cable, namely the space required when bending.
The adapter that is used now is equipped with a special 90-degree connection. This connector allows all four 8-pin PCIe cables going into the adapter to be placed below or above the card (this depends on the model). All conventional 12VHWPR adapters require at least 35mm of space to be bent, but this luxury is not available to many users with smaller housings. When the first reports about melting cables surfaced, many users decided to rather use their RTX 40 GPUs with an open case for the time being. We hope that angled adapters will solve this problem.
Other power supply and cable manufacturers have also entered the scene. So CableMod finally shows its design for a 90-degree connector. This adapter still requires the use of the original cable, but it will look even better thanks to several custom designs in the pipeline. The company is also working on four different configurations. As mentioned earlier, some graphics cards have the 12VHPWR connector rotated, while some users will prefer to run the cables under the card, and still others will prefer to use the space above the card.
In addition, CableMod provides 3D models for printing to verify that the connector fits as expected. The only bad news is that these CableMod adapters are not yet available in stores, but they should be available in the next few weeks (possibly by the end of February). By the way, we have already ordered adapters – delivery date still open.
