Even though Intel will launch these new processors under the Xeon brand, they are the spiritual successors of the long-forgotten Core X series. The future Xeon W2400 and W3400 series will not only have many more cores based on the latest architecture, but also support all modern technologies like DDR5 or PCIe Gen5. This is undoubtedly an important update for Intel’s Xeon/HEDT portfolio.
According to Wccftech, Intel has now imposed a test embargo for these CPUs. According to reports, reviews of Sapphire Rapid’s Xeon workstation will be released around February 22, which is a week after the official launch of the new Xeon lineup. It is worth noting that Intel had already confirmed February 15 as the announcement date, but the specifications and pricing information have not been announced yet.
Intel Sapphire Rapids Xeon Workstation:
- Embargo Date: 15 Feb 2023 09:00 AM PT
- Review Embargo: 22 Feb 2023 09:00 AM PT
- Sales Embargo: W-2400 + Intel W790 Chipset: 08 March to 22 March 2023
- Sales Embargo: W-3400: 12 April to 26 April 2023
Intel will split the launch of the “mainstream W2400” series and the W3400 SKUs designed for “experts”. The former will be launched along with the brand new W790 motherboard series between March 8 and 22. The higher-end models will be launched between April 12 and 26.
The full specifications of all W2400/3400 SKUs were already revealed last month. Enthusiasts should expect up to 56 cores, unlocked “X” SKUs, quad or octa-channel DDR5 memory support, and TDPs between 110 and 350 W. What is not yet confirmed is how many processors will be sent to the press for testing and how soon all 17 new Xeons will appear in stores. Pricing is of course not known at this point, but neither the Xeon-W nor the W790 motherboards will be cheap.
