Since Google banned Huawei from using Google apps on its new phones, Huawei has worked hard to develop an alternative app ecosystem. The company has teamed up with other Chinese OEMs such as Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo to create a Play Store alternative, and has even provided a whopping billion dollars to developers joining its platform. Huawei's Play Store alternative -App Gallery- are still missing many popularly used applications such as WhatsApp, Messenger, etc. Huawei is now working on a new solution called AppSearch, which allows users to load such applications on the side without having to use Google Search.
AppSearch is currently being tested in Germany, with a broader rollout planned for later in the year. It is expected to be available in the following regions:
- Austria
- Canada
- China
- Cyprus
- Czech Republic
- France
- Germany
- Ireland
- Latvia
- Netherlands
- Sweden
- United Kingdom
- United States
AppSearch will be available on all Huawei devices in the above regions in the coming weeks. It will find its way to the mentioned devices via OTA or via a software update. Currently there is only the German version of the website, which I linked above. Huawei Germany has even created a detailed video explaining how it works:
