With the FiiO EM5, I am testing earbuds today that are a little out of the ordinary. My thanks first go to the community for sending me the test sample, because the FiiO EM5 headphones are a very exciting product for audiophiles and music lovers who are looking for an exceptional listening experience. But before we dedicate ourselves to testing the FiiO EM5, it is certainly worth taking a look at the manufacturer itself. FiiO is a Chinese company that has made a name for itself in the manufacture of high-quality audio products since it was founded in 2007.
The product range includes portable music players, audio DACs and amplifiers as well as a variety of headphones and in-ear monitors. FiiO’s mission is to develop audio devices that offer excellent sound quality at an affordable price, making high-quality audio experiences accessible to a wider audience. This is exactly the approach I like so much, hence the effort with DHL across borders. Because even that is still cheaper than the current entry-level price of just under 200 euros in the FiiO store.
The company is characterized by its innovations and the use of high-end audio components in its products. With a combination of the latest technology, user-friendly design and good customer service, FiiO has built up a loyal following over the years (I have also bought devices myself). The FiiO EM5 tested today is only part of FiiO’s product range aimed at discerning audiophiles, but it is a very interesting one. We’ll see in a moment what experiences users can have with this exceptional in-ear monitor.
Scope of delivery
In addition to the earbuds, you get an interesting cable connection system with a 2.5 mm, a 3.5 mm and a 4.4 mm jack plug as well as a Y-connection cable with a cable length of around 120 cm made of pure silver coated in Litz braiding. The weight of the headphones is 23.9 g, which makes them light and comfortable for longer listening sessions. There is also a sturdy hard case for on the go and plenty of padding.
These included 18 foam tips (foamies) are another highlight, allowing slight adjustments to the sound to suit the listener’s personal preferences. Especially for critical listeners who are looking for an incredibly open and present sound image, the FiiO EM5 offers an additional, more detailed variation option here.
The EM5 earbuds therefore come with three different sets of foam ear tips (3 pairs each), which in turn are tailored to different sound preferences: Bass, Balanced and Clear (“Crisp”). This selection allows users to fine-tune the sound profile according to their preferences. The bass ear tips are designed to enhance the low frequency response, which is particularly appreciated for music genres such as hip-hop or electronic dance music. The balanced ear tips offer a more neutral sound signature, ideal for a wide range of music genres. The clear ear tips, on the other hand, emphasize the treble and are intended for users who prefer a more detailed reproduction of instruments and vocals. Or Ludwig Güttler’s Bach trumpet. It then blares like the horns of Jericho.
