It is reported that manufacturers intend to integrate USB4 into AM5 motherboards designed for the AMD Ryzen 8000G desktop APUs. According to various sources, companies such as Gigabyte could soon be launching motherboards that offer USB4 transfer support for the first time. Until now, AMD has not quite been up to date in this area. While Intel has already integrated the transfer standard into its 11th generation, AMD has not yet been represented in this area. Although USB4 capabilities were usable via expansion cards such as those from MSI, the AM5 platform has not yet received native support for USB4.
A few months ago, reports of USB4 being enabled on AMD AM5 motherboards surfaced when AMD CEO Lisa Su visited several Taiwanese manufacturers to promote USB4 support on desktop processors. It was rumored that Taiwanese company Asmedia would be responsible for introducing Thunderbolt 4 support on the AMD platform, but there have been no further developments since then.

It is believed that Gigabyte’s AORUS B650E ELITE X AX ICE motherboard may offer USB4 support for AMD’s upcoming Ryzen 8000G “Hawk Point” APUs. Gigabyte has already released the AGESA 1.1.0.1a BIOS firmware update for AM5 motherboards that supports AMD’s Hawk Point APUs. But instead of just offering new architecture support, the company is also planning improvements in the area of “connectivity”.

Thunderbolt 4 (USB4) enables transfer speeds of up to 40 Gbps and offers the possibility of port expansion, allowing multiple devices to be connected simultaneously to a single Thunderbolt 4 dock. There is speculation that USB4 may debut on AMD’s AM5 platform with the upcoming release of the Ryzen 8000G “Hawk Point” APU series, but this is currently only a rumor.
