The new AMD Ryzen 7000HX series, also known as “Dragon Range”, is based on the desktop chip and is currently one of the most powerful mobile processor families. These series with 45W+ are thereby intended for enthusiasts and “high-performance gaming laptops”. The Ryzen 7 7745HX isn’t the lowest SKU in the entire lineup, which AMD will even launch a smaller 6-core model called the 7645HX, but the 8-core 7745HX is probably what most gamers will prefer (acu from a price standpoint).
The processor clock is supposed to be up to 5.1 GHz, the base clock is probably 3.6 GHz. The power consumption is said to be between 45 and 75 watts, which is significantly higher than typical AMD mobile processors of the past few years. A benchmark result with the Ryzen 7 7745HX (laptop) was published on Bilibili. The CPU was tested with the Cinebench R23 benchmark, where it scored 1828 and 18606 points in single and multi-core workloads, respectively:
Here’s a quick comparison with other flagship models in the HX series from AMD and Intel. This comparison is based on public data from Notebookcheck, which always publishes its tests. The Ryzen 7 7745HX is 15% faster than the Zen3+-based Ryzen 9 6900HX in the single-core test and 34% faster in the multi-core test. This is a comparison between two HX SKUs with the same core count, but the Zen4 model will probably boost 200 MHz higher. Interestingly, the 7745HX even reaches the multi-core performance level of the desktop 65W 7700 non-X SKU, which made its debut at CES 2023.
Furthermore, the AMD processor is very close to the Core i9-12950HX, the mobile flagship of the last generation with a total of 16 cores. AMD will launch the first 7045HX laptops this month, but we still have to wait for the official details or detailed reviews about these laptops. Then we know for sure.
