First of all, I have to say that the part was not actually designed for the normal end customer, but for the industry and therefore certain features have to be excluded fairly from the start. But the Alphacool ES Orbiter 360 TS is mercilessly trimmed for performance and does exactly what you would expect from such a cooler. I’ve been using it for quite some time now, replacing the much louder and, above all, more power-hungry chiller, which is also much more cumbersome and weighs a lot more. The Orbiter is a rather portable solution that also offers certain advantages at second glance.
This is because the Alphacool ES Orbiter 360 TS, which costs just under 500 euros (everything that can make money apparently costs the same in the first place), presents itself as an external, compact and powerful cooling device that is equipped with two HPE-30 NexXxoS Full Copper radiators, which measure a total of 360 mm, and is supposed to be able to eliminate heat of up to 1300 watts (at 23 °C ambient temperature). A 120 mm and a 240 mm NexXxoS Full Copper radiator with a thickness of 30 mm in the HPE version are used for the cooling process.
Three Core 120 mm fans with a long service life are supposed to guarantee efficient (and unfortunately not completely silent) ventilation of the radiators. The control and monitoring of the fans and the pump are done by the integrated ES Guardian Powerfan Hub, which gives an alarm in case of component failure. A color display on the front panel allows the temperature to be monitored. A level indicator, also on the front, shows the amount of liquid present in the system.
Unboxing and accessories
The device comes to the customer unfilled, logically. So you still need an extra canister of coolant. Included are the extra power supply and a nozzle for filling. The rest you have to buy yourself, but that’s not an issue. A manual is included and no software is needed. So that’s the whole story.
The Alphacool ice tray expansion tank with a powerful third generation integrated VPP755 pump is built right in behind the front. This pump allows for pretty decent operation of just about any circuit needed. The fill port on the top also makes it easy to refill the coolant, while an adjacent valve allows for easy venting of the system.
The water connections, as well as the power connection, are located on the back of the Orbiter.
What we noticed is that the ES Orbiter’s design is simple and sleek, and it’s also relatively lightweight when I compare it to the bulky Chiller. With the two embedded handles on the sides, it’s easy to transport. Now, here’s the 360° flight over the test object before we get to the hard factors.
Technical data
Let’s have a quick look at the technical data before I disassemble the part right away. Because curious as I am, I want to know what it looks like inside.
