We have already explained several times that wireless mice have long since overcome their teething troubles and can now also be found in the esports sector. And the fact that Logitech and Razer are no longer the only ones is not news either. Last year Fritz introduced you to the GM41 mice with and without cables and today we take a look at the new GM51 series.
Although last year’s generation of MSI’s Clutch lineup left quite a mature impression from a technical point of view, the lightweight rodents somehow still looked a bit “plain” visually. However, if a concept as such works well, it makes little sense to throw it completely overboard. For this reason, MSI has kept the solid base, tightened the sensor under the hood and added a new and colorful finish. Equipped with the Pixart 3395 sensor, more RGB and a more defined shape, the GM51 series is now meant to annoy the “big guys”.
Unboxing Part 1
The photos of the packaging are unfortunately a bit overexposed. But they are not particularly exciting. MSI has been using the packaging design for quite a while and it was also recently seen on the GK71 Sonic. Let’s start with the wired Clutch GM51 Lightweight.
Much more interesting than the packaging is of course the content. The mouse comes well protected in a cardboard slider and is protected from dust by a blister cover.
There are no accessories, only some paperwork is in the box.
The cable is covered with a flexible textile jacket, the connectors are gold-plated. There is nothing to complain about here.
The bottom is equipped with small but well-distributed sliding feet. Due to the clever distribution, the mouse rests very stably on the surface. There is also a profile button at the bottom.
From this perspective, it is already noticeable that the GM51 has grown somewhat in height in contrast to the GM41 and makes a slight hump.
With and without the cable, the GM51 Lightweight weighs in at a not-so-light 76 and 105 grams, respectively. Certainly not a “Specki”, but for a “lightweight” mouse in 2023 it is actually rather on the heavier side.
The grippy side panels not only provide a decent grip, but also house the eye-catching RGB lighting.
Finally, impressions from all sides, to judge the shape.
The first impression of the wired GM51 Lightweight is quite positive.
