Sufficient Wadlbeißer: AMD Radeon RX 550 in test

The Radeon RX 550 is actually the only one of AMD's now-launched graphics cards to be truly new and runs internally as Polaris 12. It is clearly aimed at the entry-level area for less than 100 euros and thus occupies a market niche in which Nvid... Summary

AMD is re-occupying the niche that seems to be too poppy or unprofitable enough for others. But why should this opportunity be missed? System builders and integrators will be pleased, some HTPC enthusiasts of course too. With a little luck, customers of all the simple finished PCs can hope not only to purchase a CPU with integrated graphics, but also to find a cheap RX 550 in the PC. And it's also a test of what to think of the new APUs you'd expect everywhere.

The direct comparison to the R7 250 is not one, which is why we compared it with the R7 260X. Nevertheless, the whole thing is quite optimistic. Not only in terms of performance, but also through many new features that are simply more contemporary. And Nvidia will have to ask itself whether something like a GTX 1030 could still make the mass market happy. Kevin Einstiegs-Gamer would certainly be happy about a little more competition.

Of course, the Radeon RX 550 is subject to the other tested cards in today's test (except for Intel's iGP HD530), but if you're fair and operate it on the platform you'd expect such a card, then suddenly the differences aren't that extreme , as some games have shown.

MSI RX 550 Aero ITX

Which brings us to the tested map as such. The MSI RX 550 Aero ITX is an interesting, small and also nicely light card, which makes more operation in some situations than you might have expected. Only the fan profile is a bit of a frustration, because everyone doesn't want to be unnecessarily bothered, and if it's just the noise level. The whole thing is not a fan control, but only a slightly varying and far too high fixed speed.

We have contacted MSI about this and MSI is already working on a BIOS to improve the control of the fans.

Conclusion

AMD has done nothing wrong, on the contrary, but still can't quite rip you off your stool. This is mainly due to the fact that in the back of one's mind one always knows that one is actually only a second-class customer, who is completely unnecessarily denied the full setup and thus perhaps also 3-4 FPS and more. We've had that before with the RX 460, and it hasn't necessarily made Apple more likeable or popular around AMD-preferred users. Deal or not, we think it's a pity.
