NVIDIA’s upcoming GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER GPU is rumored to have more memory than the original GeForce RTX 4080 graphics card. It is speculated that the RTX 4080 SUPER will come with 20GB of GDDR6X memory and will be available at the same price as the 4080. There are also hints that NVIDIA is planning different configurations, but only one of them will go on sale.
There are always new rumors about an upcoming refresh of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX series from various sources, including the RTX 4080 SUPER with the AD102 GPU and similar price to the RTX 4080 Non-SUPER. Benchlife has confirmed that the RTX 4080 SUPER exists, but NVIDIA apparently hasn’t decided their final configurations yet. One configuration includes up to 20GB of GDDR6X memory, which is 25% more than the RTX 4080 and similar to the RTX 3080 Ti 20GB.
According to our various sources, the relevant information has not yet been provided to various AIC partners, but the three SKUs have basically been confirmed, among which the updated version of GeForce RTX 4080 will be a 20GB GDDR6x memory configuration, but another source emphasized , everything will be finalized until NVIDIA releases a formal notice, otherwise it will just be an Internet rumor.
I have some different opinions.
I think the relationship between RTX 4080 Super and RTX 4080 is similar to that between RTX 2080 Super and RTX 2080. https://t.co/LJqKZRISta— kopite7kimi (@kopite7kimi) October 23, 2023
There were rumors of an RTX 3080 Ti with 20 GB of memory, but when the card actually came out, it only had 12 GB. It was later revealed that some manufacturers did produce 20 GB models, but most of them ended up in the crypto segment or were discarded. However, a 20 GB variant is expected for the upcoming RTX 4080.
Moreover, the memory expansion fits the use of the AD102 GPU, since the existing AD103 chips only support a bus interface of up to 256 bits. This means that only 16 GB / 32 GB designs are possible, with the latter only being specific to Pro RTX variants. The AD102 GPU allows for a wider bus and with 20 GB of VRAM results in a 320-bit configuration. Other specifications such as the core configuration have yet to be determined, but it is likely that these cards will go through several configuration changes before launch, as we have seen with previous generations of NVIDIA GPUs.
There are rumors that the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER will be priced the same as the RTX 4080, while at the same time the price of the existing card will be lowered to $999 US. This suggests that AMD still wants to position the RTX 4080 series as a competitor to the 7900 XTX, while the RTX 4090 will remain as the top card for now until it is replaced by a SUPER or TI offering.
