We recently reported on the discontinuation of the Yuzu and Citra emulators. Now another emulator can say goodbye, but one that did not support piracy and was available on the market completely legally. It was only introduced about 3 years ago and now it is over again. Microsoft will be discontinuing its Windows subsystem for Android from March 5, 2025. This can be seen from the Amazon FAQ page and the Microsoft website.
Emulator project Yuzu closed and tey must pay Nintendo 2.4 million US dollars
With the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA for short), it was possible for Windows 11 users to download and use Android apps or APK files on their PC. The whole thing was introduced on October 21, 2021. First in the United States as a beta function, but then also here and in other selected countries. You could download the Amazon Appstore to your PC via the Microsoft Store and use it to download the available apps.
The whole thing will only be available until March 5, 2025. Users still have the opportunity to download and enjoy applications from the Amazon Appstore before it disappears. This can still be done via this link. After this date, the Amazon Appstore and all associated apps will no longer be supported. This also means that it will no longer be possible to use apps that have already been installed after the end of the system.
The reasons for the shutdown of the system are still unclear. The demand for the WSA was presumably too low, as this system was only available in selected countries and this number of countries was also not that large, which is probably why Microsoft decided to end this partnership with Amazon.
