Served and watered: Lian Li DK-04X Gaming-Table in practice test

Summary

Whether you add a soundbar like the SoundblasterX Katana from Creative Labs to the good piece or set up a full-fledged audio system with separate loudspeaker stands, the table itself always makes a good figure, although it is due to the glass surface as a direct installation location for larger shelf speakers or near-field monitors.

In the interior, on the other hand, one can confidently let it crash if after the purchase of the not quite cheap table still enough money for corresponding hardware is left. A real custom loop water cooling is certainly not the worst idea if more than one graphics card is to be installed or thermal problems with possible noise background are feared.

In the end, everything we wanted to install fits in and the concept with the two slightly misused AiO water pumps in the two Alphacool GPX Pro as the sole replacement for a central water pump has completely come to fruition. The table has been working for approx. 5 months without problems and almost daily also over several hours.

With the SLI and the support of the preferred games you have to get along (want) with the possible consequences, e.g. Microjerkers or lack of profile support certain games then unfortunately also. If the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti had already been on the market at the time of construction, we would certainly have dispensed with the two-card solution. But then we would also have had to do without the exciting hose in this form.

We had actually assumed that this combination, despite slight throttling of the speeds, was suitable to move the almost 2 liters of the overall circuit sufficiently, even if the manufacturer had not yet tested it himself. However, the fact that this is done without conspicuous turbulence and mutual influence of the serially used pumps has more than reassured us in advance, despite many fears and predictions to the contrary.

However, the counter-test with a simple GPX heat sink without a pump has shown that a single active pump with then significantly higher speed runs louder, more strenuously and is also perceived subjectively as much more disturbing than both running together in the gentle gear Pump units. Provided that both pumps are operated well below the maximum speeds, which is completely sufficient. Which individual setting is most favorable is determined by the combination of the components in circulation.

Conclusion

Beautiful to look at, nice in handling and unfortunately just as nicely expensive.  We therefore do not want to give a generalised purchase tip due to the high purchase price, which would probably be unfair. But lian Li's DK-04 is more than just an aluminium-made feasibility study and also more than just an everyday art object in everyday practice. It is a real commodity, albeit a rather unusual one. This, in turn, is a compliment that cannot be expressed with a Wasauchimmer Award.
