Much has been written about the game, so I don’t need to go into extreme detail again. And even though it’s actually a console port, the game is already from 2019 and used to be PS4 exclusive – the PC gets to show what it can do again here (and the player all the more). Deacon St. John as the main character is the likeable anti-hero of the highest order, always a dumb line on his lips, a good friend in tow, and plenty of zombies to slaughter. Sounds like the usual post-apocalypse and yes, it is. But not only.
The usual “go there”, “do this and that” and “kill this guy or that guy and especially bring his hat as proof” are of course the usual quest filler that guarantees long playtimes, but that doesn’t bother here that much. A very coherent story, tolerable and above all atmospherically convincing graphics, quite few bugs and lots of nice transition scenes (which are almost too much of a good thing sometimes and can’t always be skipped), round off the very positive picture. Yes, you can play this and you should.
I bought the game even though there is actually hardly any time for such a complex filled title, but I always found an hour to keep looking. Yes, it’s almost addictive and if you don’t really have a strong will and know when a break is needed, you’ll be gambling until your eyes fall shut. I’ll take that as a compliment and leave you to the next pages of chronologically created UHD screenshots. However, I don’t want to spoil anything, so I stopped at a very important point. Everyone should really play it to the end themselves. Have fun until next week, when we’ll have graphics hardware at its finest again.
