Anyone planning a water cooling system will sooner or later ask the question, “Which pump do I need?” If you now turn to a community with the question, you will receive many different answers. But predominantly the answer will be: “A D5”. Why this is so and whether the massively expanded version of Aquacomputer is Swiss Knife, I want to find out in this review.
Unboxing and first impression
Let’s first free the device from its packaging and look at the contents.
Included are a bunch of mounting hardware, connection cables for the pump controller and the RGB lighting, as well as a Quick Start Guide, which I’ve included as a PDF below.
The device makes a solid and very high-quality impression. The cylinder of the expansion tank is made of borosilicate glass, which I will discuss in more detail later.
The terminal with the two G1/4″ connectors is made of POM/Acetal, which has a very decisive advantage that I will also discuss in the course of the review.
The D5 NEXT pump has an OLED display and a stand-alone control in case you don’t want to connect the controller to the mainboard.
If you remove the aluminum lid…
If you look into the door, you will find a rubber seal (moulded part with perfect fitting accuracy) – nothing will leak out.
At the bottom sits a thin grid made of stainless steel, which acts as a filter. Loose particles and air bubbles are reliably filtered out of the circuit at this point.
The scope of delivery includes:
- Expansion tank with integrated pump
- RGBpx compatible LED ring
- RGBpx connection cable, length 50cm
- Rubber mounting ring with stainless steel insert
- Internal USB connection cable, length 100cm
- Fastening material
- Decoupling material
