AMD is ending the use of HS, H and U designations for 15-45W mobile processors and instead introducing the scalable “Ryzen AI” branding, reports Weibo. In a significant move to simplify its mobile processor portfolio, AMD has announced it will discontinue the previous HS, H and U designations for 15-45W TDP (Thermal Design Power) chips. Instead, the company will switch to the uniform branding “Ryzen AI” from the upcoming Strix Point generation.
The switch to “Ryzen AI” has several advantages:
- Simplified understanding: the new nomenclature makes it easier for consumers and partners to quickly understand the performance class of a mobile processor.
- Scalability: “Ryzen AI” offers AMD the flexibility to cover different performance levels within the 15-45W segment.
- Forward-looking: The new name emphasizes AMD’s focus on AI-powered innovation in mobile processors.
The previous HS, H and U series will be marketed under the new “Ryzen AI” brand
Effects on existing series:
randing will be continued. For example, the successor to the Ryzen 7040 “Phoenix” series (HS/H) will be called “Ryzen AI HX”.
Challenges and opportunities:
The change to “Ryzen AI” could initially lead to confusion for some consumers as the TDP label is no longer explicitly included in the name. To address this, AMD will provide comprehensive information materials and tools to enable a clear classification of performance classes, while the new nomenclature offers AMD the opportunity to optimize its marketing and communication strategies and highlight the benefits of its AI-focused processors.
The introduction of the “Ryzen AI” branding marks a turning point in AMD’s mobile processor strategy. The new nomenclature promises simplified categorization, scalable performance classes and a stronger emphasis on AI innovation. With clear communication and appropriate information materials, AMD can take full advantage of the new branding and further strengthen the position of its mobile processors in the market.
