AMD has published new details about the next Ryzen 8000 and 9000 processor generations. The Ryzen 8000 processors will be based on the new Zen 5 architecture and will be launched in the first half of 2024. They will feature up to 32 cores and 15% IPC increase over the Ryzen 7000 processors. The Ryzen 9000 processors will then be launched in the second half of 2024 and will be based on the new Zen 4 architecture. They will be equipped with up to 16 cores and 24 threads and will be manufactured in 2 nm.
Leaker Moore’s Law is Dead has published presentation slides containing information about AMD Zen 5 and Zen 6. The Nirvana architecture, which will ship to consumers in the first half of 2024 as part of AMD Ryzen 8000, is said to be manufactured at TSMC with a 3nm or 4nm structure width. The slide talks about 10 to 15 percent better performance at identical clock frequencies (IPC). The “Low Power Core Option” probably refers to Zen 5c, because according to earlier rumors, AMD will also rely on a combination of performance and efficiency cores in the future. The Core Complex (CCD) with 16 processor cores is also new. If AMD installs two CCDs in its fastest desktop processors as before, this will result in a chip with 32 cores.
The “Morpheus” architecture is to be launched in the second half of 2025 as part of Ryzen 9000 and improve the IPC performance by another 10 percent. AMD plans CCDs with 32 processing cores each, but they could only be equipped with the more frugal Zen 6c cores. In this case, the maximum number of computing cores would be limited to 40 or 48, depending on the maximum number of cores a Zen 6 CCD can achieve. If 2nm manufacturing becomes available, Zen 6 will be made in it. Ryzen 9000 accelerates the processing of FP16 computations, which allows AI applications or machine learning algorithms to be computed faster. It is not yet known whether AMD will stay with the AM5 socket or switch to a new socket.
