AMD Ryzen 8000 “Strix Point” next-generation APUs, two RDNA 3.5 iGPU SKUs in GFX1150 and GFX1151

Work is currently underway on the next generation of AMD Ryzen 8000 APUs, codenamed Strix Point. Two new SKUs have already been added to the AMDGPU LLVM backend. The AMD Ryzen 8000 “Strix Point” APUs will appear in LLVM and feature RDNA 3.5 “GFX1150” & “GFX1151” iGPUs. It is expected that the AMD Ryzen 8000 CPU family will be available in different variants. For desktops, Granite Ridge is planned with a confirmed launch in 2024. In addition, there will also be Strix Point for laptops, the launch of which will be around the same time, although the announcement might be a bit earlier.

The AMD Ryzen 8000 “STRIX Point” APU series is expected to be developed for notebooks first. There is a possibility of a later launch on the AM5 platform for desktops. However, it remains to be seen what the company’s plans are first with the Phoenix launch on AM5. In terms of specifications, the Strix Point APUs are expected to have Zen 5 CPU cores, RDNA 3.5 GPU cores and an improved AI engine.

Phoronix (via Videocardz) has now spotted two unnamed SKUs in the AMDGPU LLVM backend that may offer our first glimpses of the upcoming APUs. Two APUs show up in the LLVM, with the first based on the “GFX1150” IP and the second based on the “GFX 1151” IP. This confirms that the RDNA 3.5 APUs are based on the “GFX 115* IP.” Phoronix also states that the same IPs have already appeared on “Strix 1”, supporting earlier rumors that Strix Point will be available in two different SKU variants.

One of the AMD Ryzen 8000 “Strix Point” configurations will use a single monolithic chip like a traditional APU, while the other will have a chiplet design and will appear as a “Halo” SKU with a much better GPU configuration. It is very likely that we will get these APUs as AMD Ryzen 8055 series (Ryzen 8000 APU lineup) with the following features:

  • Zen 5 (5nm) Monolithic Design
  • RDNA 3.5 Graphics Cores
  • Enhanced AI Engine
  • 2H 2024 Launch (Expected)

It will undoubtedly be interesting to see the AMD Ryzen 8000 “Strix Point” APUs in action. They promise a significant advance in graphics performance while offering outstanding CPU capabilities with the new Zen 5 cores.
