Apparently, AMD is not willing to wait for the successful implementation of the next generation RDNA 4 GPU in Linux. The company has recently released new patches that provide initial support for the architecture’s PSP (Platform Security Processor).
PSP, which stands for “Platform Security Processor”, is a special security chip that is integrated into the main processor of a computer. Its main task is to create an isolated environment in which sensitive tasks can be carried out and the system is protected from security threats. In the case of graphics processors, the PSP is responsible for validating the firmware. Phoronix has reported that the new PSP version 14.0 now offers support for RDNA 4 in initial IP blocks. Although no new details have been announced, this shows that AMD is committed to ensuring a smooth deployment at launch of its future architectures such as Zen 5 or RDNA 4. The recent change in the company’s approach to releasing “IP blocks” has been a great success in the development industry, as it has now been possible to access multiple Linux resources efficiently and incrementally.
Recently, some new patches have been discovered in the AMDGPU kernel, presumably aimed at integrating support for the RDNA 4 GPU architecture. Recently, AMD has continued to pick up the pace as we approach the launch date. We can expect more crucial patches to emerge in the future, which dan hint at what to expect from the product line.
