ASUS is the second motherboard manufacturer to confirm the compatibility of the upcoming AMD Ryzen 9000 “Zen 5 Granite Ridge” CPUs with AM5 motherboards, according to our colleagues at Hardwareluxx. ASUS already released a BIOS update with the AGESA version 1.1.7.0 for its AM5 mainboards at the beginning of this month. Although the changelogs for this update only vaguely mentioned support for “future CPUs”, ASUS has now officially confirmed compatibility with the Ryzen 9000 processors, as reported by HXL (@9550pro). This means that owners of AM5 motherboards from ASUS can upgrade as soon as the Ryzen 9000 CPUs come onto the market in the second half of 2024.

Which ASUS AM5 mainboards are supported?
The following list shows all ASUS AM5 (X670E) motherboards that have received the AMD AGESA 1.1.7.0 BIOS update with Zen 5 support:
- ROG CROSSHAIR X670E HERO BETA BIOS 2003
- ROG CROSSHAIR X670E GENE BETA BIOS 2003
- ROG CROSSHAIR X670E EXTREME BETA BIOS 2003
- ROG STRIX X670E-A GAMING WIFI BETA BIOS 2003

More details on Ryzen 9000 support:
- The support refers to the “AMD Ryzen” Granite Ridge family and extends the SMU to 98.58.0.
- The AMD Granite Ridge family is also identified by the “00B40Fxx” ID.
- Initial engineering samples of the Zen 5 “Ryzen” CPUs are already in use by motherboard manufacturers.
- The official unveiling of the Ryzen 9000 CPUs is expected at Computex 2024 in early June.
