Earlier this month, it was reported that NVIDIA was on track to launch its GeForce RTX 4090 D GPU in the near future. This product is officially designed as a China-exclusive variant to counteract the export restrictions imposed on the RTX 4090 and should not be released until next year. However, a recent report from Expreview suggests that the launch could possibly take place this month after all.
The technology outlet reports that NVIDIA has set the launch date for the GeForce RTX 4090 D GPU for December 28 at 10pm (Beijing time). It is not stated whether this will be an official launch or a real sales launch. If it is a sales launch, the card could be a perfect New Year’s gift for gamers in China. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 D is expected to use a cut-down variant of the Ada Lovelace GPU, labeled AD102-250-A1 SKU, to meet US government requirements and comply with the latest export regulations. The GPU is expected to offer a base clock of 2280 MHz and a boost of 2520 MHz. It is expected to have 24GB of GDDR6X memory with a bandwidth of over 1TB/s and a TGP of over 400W.
The US Department of Commerce and Secretary Gina Raimondo recently took a rather mild stance on China’s AI chip restrictions, stating that NVIDIA should sell chips to China as they are used for non-commercial applications such as gaming. In terms of price, the upcoming gaming GPU will be priced similarly to the previous RTX 4090 model with an MSRP of 12,999 RMB, which amounts to about 1,668.36 EURO.
