It has been known for some time that Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and AMD CEO Lisa Su are related. A family tree from Taiwan is now said to show the exact connection between the two. Although Intel has also been trying to gain a foothold in the graphics card market lately, this market has been largely split between AMD and Nvidia. The two companies have been battling for dominance in graphics processing units (GPUs) for years, with CEOs Lisa Su (AMD) and Jensen Huang (Nvidia) at the helm. Interestingly, however, the two have more in common than just a similar professional occupation – they are related.
It was revealed a few years ago that Lisa Su and Jensen Huang have a distant relationship. However, a family tree published on Facebook shows that this connection is not as far apart as assumed. Reportedly, Su’s great-grandparents are Huang’s grandparents, which means that the two CEOs are likely to be first cousins.
However, it seems unlikely that this kinship plays a significant role in their lives, as the family tree lacks numerous descendants. The family has already branched out considerably in the first generation of descendants, as Su’s great-grandparents apparently had a total of 12 children. It is understandable that there is little contact between parts of the second and third generations of descendants. Although Huang and Su were both born in the Taiwanese city of Tainan, their families emigrated to the United States shortly thereafter. Due to the age difference between the two CEOs, they never lived in the city at the same time. Therefore, while the kinship is not too distant on paper, it is probably hardly relevant to Su and Huang in fact.
