Yes, the Padman has struck again. Actually, I don’t repair third party cards, there’s just not enough time. But here I was gripped by ambition and I let myself be talked into it. Okay, so close your eyes and get through it. The package with the heat-sensitive Gainward GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Phoenix arrived with DHL and I was quite curious what to expect…
The error description came via PN from the forum. As soon as even a little load is applied, the fans turn to 100% and the card goes into stutter mode. Or off altogether. The fans do not produce more than around 3000 rpm.
I don’t really trust the whole thing, so I didn’t do any further stress tests myself, because I didn’t want to completely break the good piece either. By the way, the article was created on the basis of a video, so in the reverse order as usual. But it was easier to document the complete rebuild as a video and then pick out the relevant information.
If you want to watch me tinkering, you are welcome to do so on the last page, I have also linked the video. In between, however, I also took photos and they go in full resolution (and penetrance) only in the article. And here it is, the hyperventilating Gainward GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Phantom!
