AMD Fluid Motion Frames technology was presented for the first time in September. This technology uses frame generation to increase FPS in games with just one click. Unlike FSR 3, which requires collaboration with game developers, AFMF technology can easily integrate image generation technology by injecting it through the driver side. Although FSR 3 still performs better in terms of quality, Fluid Motion Frames allow you to enjoy improved FPS in a wide range of games based on the DX12 and DX11 APIs.
AMD has now released its first official driver with support for Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) yesterday. The driver is entitled “Adrenalin Edition 24.1.1” and is finally equipped with this FPS-enhancing technology. This marks the end of the preview driver and makes the technology generally available.
It's here! If you haven't tried it yet, you're missing out on huge frame rate gains across thousands of games:
AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) – Boost FPS up to 97% for a smoother gaming experience by adding frame generation technology to any DirectX® 11 and 12 game.…— Frank Azor (@AzorFrank) January 23, 2024
The driver supports all three RDNA generations of GPUs (7000, 6000, 5000 series), but AFMF technology is still only supported by certain GPUs such as Radeon RX 7000 (RDNA 3), Radeon 700M (RDNA 3) and Radeon RX 6000 (RDNA 2). The inclusion of the Radeon 700M iGPUs makes sense as they are used in handhelds with the latest Ryzen 7040/8040 APUs from AMD. These devices can certainly benefit tremendously from Fluid Motion Frames technology and improve their integrated GPU capabilities.
In addition to other functions, the driver also offers the option of enhancing videos with the help of fluid motion frames and making numerous corrections. The video upscaling technology is supported in both VLC and YouTube and competes with NVIDIA’s Video Super Resolution, which has also seen significant improvements in recent months. Below are the latest highlights that the latest Adrenalin driver brings:
In addition to numerous fixes, the latest Adrenalin driver also brings video upscaling using Fluid Motion Frames. This technology is supported in VLC and YouTube and competes with NVIDIA’s Video Super Resolution.
