The AMD Threadripper 7000 CPUs have shown impressive overclocking performance in recent weeks and maintain their dominance in the workstation and HEDT segment. Although the CPUs and some TRX50 motherboards are now available, early users have noted that overclocking may affect the system’s warranty.
Upon entering the BIOS of the TRX50 motherboards and enabling overclocking support, one is first confronted with a cautionary disclaimer stating that overclocking the AMD Threadripper 7000 CPUs will effectively void the warranty. This was also discovered by SkatterBencher in a very detailed guide to what’s new on the TRX50 platform. Once overclocking is enabled, your AMD Threadripper 7000 CPU will no longer be accepted for warranty if something goes wrong. This is not a new development, as overclocking an AMD Ryzen 7000 CPU on the AM5 platform also voids the warranty. The company officially mentions this within the Ryzen Master utility, and even enabling PBO effectively voids the warranty, as AMD explains.
pic.twitter.com/mCh1bbeBZZ

All AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7000 and Threadripper PRO 7000 CPUs support the overclocking features on the TRX50 and WRX90 platforms. Only OEM platforms disable overclocking. DIY platforms have access to it. The warranty warning only applies to the Threadripper PRO 7000 chips and not to the Ryzen Threadripper models.
Precision Boost Overdrive enables operation of the processor outside of specifications and in excess of factory settings, use of the feature invalidates the AMD product warranty and may also void warranties offered by the system manufacturer or retailer.
AMD
It would be an advantage if this is indeed true, as most HEDT customers are likely to buy the non-PRO range. AMD offers really powerful motherboards with high quality VRM designs. If you don’t overclock the chip there within reason and actual chip quality, you’re not utilizing the full potential of the system.
