Hi,
I am failing to update Gigabyte 5700 XT. The same procedure updates the BIOS on MSI cards with no problem. I follow the instructions on Igors Lab.

The sign of having trouble with the card bios flash shows in GPU-Z. After flash using amdvbflash the values of GPU and memory frequencies is empty. With stock bios there are Mhz frequencies.

Is there any known problems with flashing Gigabyte cards?
Any suggestions on what other forums I may ask for assistance?
Is it possible that the OEM bios is signed, and any modified bios will be rejected?
If the bios is signed, any tools to resign, or would I need to buy a card from a different vendor?

Thanks,

Alley Cat

I have lower a bit on the core to 1380 and 780 on voltage. If lower at 1325 with 765 the hashrate drops to 54~55. I keep getting 168mh in total with this configuration. I'm ok with the result!

I have a gigabyte 5700 xt gaming oc. I tried to flash the bios provided here with ubuntu with success, but when triying to flash modded bios fails again because of the signature. Can´t make it that way?

I don't know about linux, but in windows you must use the tool provided in the download section. The bios is signed, you can't get pass that without the modified tool.

Please test the amdvbflash tool for Linux in the kindly attached link below and test using -f command to force flash and bypass all securities,

I have a trick up my sleeve however I need help to test it,

Any volunteer who have at least one way or method of recovery is welcomed.
I repadded my gigabyte gpu with the gelid ultimate pads and reworked all the metal surfaces for proper alignment and contactpatch.
I also added some cheap china heatsinks to the backplate. In a later stadium i plan on removing the backplate al together and just install on big heatsink on the back.
Also spaced the gpu a bit more and my temps are stable at 76/78 °C after 60+ hours non-stop mining.
These cards are awesome but a bit rough from factory so it will need a bit of finishing work to get them performing the wat they should.
That said im very interested in your trick/solution to keeping these cards cool.

This is interesting! I might try this myself as I struggle with temps. What thickness of thermalpads did you use?

Greetings,

Thank you for your useful and informative post,

I hope that those who are able to do these modification to do it as the RX 5700 XT and non XT are a very capable cards with the proper setup.

Maybe I don't understand. This procedure is to recover a bricked GPU or is it possible to flash a modded bios? Because I can flash the rom attached, but cant flash mod bios.

I could not do ti in linux so I created a freDOS USB.

I'm still getting the same error "BIOS authentication signature failed"

Please let me know if I made a mistake:

1. Flashed original RX57.... ROM you provided
2. I modified that rom (a copy, didn't made a backup from the GPU as it is the same) with morePower and Red BIOS as you explained
3. Copied that modified ROM on freeDOS flash drive
4. Tried to flash the modified ROM, but I get the error.

Whats my mistake? mine is a Gigabyte 5700XT Gaming oc 8gb

FreeDOS is only when flashing original vbios,

to flash the modified one use amdvbflash v2.93+ with -f command for 5700 XT cards.

Yes only in windows at the meantime,

If you like you can make another partition on the same drive for windows if you have only one drive.s
So I need to flash this new version and then flash this new version but modded right? .

Is it necessary to modify a rom saved from the gpu or can I modify the original and flash it?

For now, this is what my platform looks like, consumption, settings, hashrate!
