i bet it want... theres to much load on the connector leading to problems combined with different ambient variables (ambient temp, connection quality, pcb temp, connector soldering direction, soldering quality... ). Maybe a downgrade - for example 350W - would have done the job, who knows ...Will this stop the angled adapters from CableMod to fry? Nope It will continue months forward. There is more into this than the connector itself.
4 in a row only today. What's the record? 5, 6 or 7 ? And of course only melted angled adapters. Not the custom or vanilla cables with the tiny 12VHPWR connector. The smoke/melt statistics don't lie. 99.9% of melted connectors are the fancy 90/180 degrees angled adapters.
CableMod don't use the same terminals for their fancy angled adapters they offered for Igorslab review. They have changed and now instead use home cooked. Not the one PCI-SIG and Intel recommend. They said due lead times... I wonder if the new one they prefer now is cheaper for CableMod.i bet it want... theres too much load on the connector leading to problems combined with different ambient variables (ambient temp, connection quality, pcb temp, connector soldering direction, soldering quality... ). testers vs customer products ... i didnt hear that before but yes ... didnt sound unusual. As i said .. turning 1 or 2 variables around the connection a bit to the bad side and theres a big chance to melt 12VHPWR - narrow window at high loads.CableMod don't use the same terminals for their fancy angled adapters they offered for Igorslab review.
ASUS is the only AIB i know of that turned the connector upside down. (because of *reasons*, or does anyone know why they did that) Might be a bit to much heat in this tiny space.
@ weither it will stop cablemods melting: wasnt there a post somewhere her in the forum recently about it being possible to slightly angle(=minimally unplugging again) even those adapters while installing a card/cable with it already mounted? so i doubt it will stop.
