I have been consulting with manufacturers, workshops and also my readers since last week and have also received a lot of feedback. In the end, this is probably the case for most manufacturers, where controlling overrules engineering. However, I don’t want to repeat the part about the soiled and cheap silicone pads, because for that I have linked the relevant articles again below. But it doesn’t only hit MSI, but also Gigabyte / Aorus (picture below), the companies of PC-Partner (e.g. Zotac) and even Asus.
To understand my displeasure, you have to understand that bleeding pads end up being a real breaking point, whether intentional or not. Higher-priced consumer goods, which I also count graphics cards among, simply must not have such weak points. And yet they cut corners on the pads as if the well-being of the company depended on it. Of course, small amounts are always a huge factor in the sum of an industrial mass production, only this will surely pay off in the future!
Because you’re just pushing the costs out in front of you. What is saved today may come back to companies tomorrow in the form of a much more complex and expensive RMA. However, the somewhat nasty features of this calculation now come into play! After all, what average customer even notices the drop in performance? And how often are such graphics cards for enthusiasts actually renewed? There are more than a few who will buy at least every other generation. The discarded cards are then sold and the problem then lands (undetected for the time being) with the next owner. If one reads oneself however the whole general terms and conditions times through, then second owners often have serious disadvantages to demand at all still guarantee achievements!
In the pictures above and below we can also see how carelessly the pads are handled during assembly. There cup capacitors become also already once the punch and the circuit board will warp in consequence still more. These are only a few examples of many, which I do not want to list all here, because it is unfortunately similar again and again. Cost pressure, fast moving cycle lines and often stressed staff. Only such products in quality are simply not commensurate with the price.
I can only appeal to manufacturers to regain a little more traction. Then rather a little less RGB and more quality under the hood. In fact, in the long run, it will pay off. It doesn’t always have to be the cheap pad from the Chinese noname butze, you can also buy from Fujipoly, Laird or Ziitek. Yes, it costs a little more, but it benefits everyone in the end. Even the manufacture itself. I actually wrote this article today just to raise awareness of the details a bit and to demand what you as a customer can also expect: quality.
