CPU Practice Reviews Workstations

We build a Hackintosh – part 1 as a starting aid for newcomers and assembly

Quick assembly

Space without end… If you need a lot of storage in the form of HDDs and SSDs, you can let off steam here! First step, remove the real glass side panels and fix the I/O shield.

Now you have to prepare the mainboard for the installation. Place the CPU on the socket, SSD in the M.2 slot and the ram bolts. And then into the case with it!

Now screw the power supply with all the cables you need into the case and note the fan orientation! Here was my Kevin-Horst moment: I had forgotten the SATA cable… The Corsair AIO can’t do without it in this case. Fortunately still noticed and the subsequent mounting of the cable, is thanks to the ample space and the previously planned expansion of 2 HDD carriers without great effort feasible!

Thanks to the removable radiator support, pre-assembly and installation of the AIO is child’s play. The wiring of the mainboard (CPU, 24 pin, case fan, front USB, audio etc.) should be done before, otherwise it gets a bit weasel-haired at one or the other place!

All inside and wired up! Do some cable management in the back and reattach the side doors. Power plug is in and HDMI cable connected to the 48″ TV. Running! At this point I really must say that the aRGB lighting from Corsair looks really good. Respect!

A look into the bios: there is the Intel Core i9-9900K – of course without overclocking!

Interim conclusion

Up to this point, everything is as usual! if you have already built one or the other PC, this is no challenge for you. The components used are of high-quality workmanship, look classy and are very easy to install. MSI’s opulent case offers space for everything your heart desires. Thanks to the already installed fans (2x 200 mm in the front and 140 mm in the back) there is sufficient ventilation for our system. The magnetic real glass doors allow quick access to the installed components.

Who, for example. has to push an HDD quickly, can do this in a few minutes without much effort. With the right fan curves, the system will be whisper quiet and the temperatures should remain low. Thanks to the Corsair H150i Pro XT, the Intel Core i9-9900K, even with overclocking, will be able to reach and hold the maximum boost. Igor will test and publish everything in the later course. The discreet aRGB lighting from Corsair shows the inside of the computer to its best advantage without being too thick!

If you want more, you can select and supplement what you need here on the market. For example, MSI offers the same case with aRGB fans at the front, back and top. So, if you have informed yourself about the choice of hardware for your hackintosh beforehand, you won’t have any nasty surprises later on. At least not as far as the hardware is concerned! The rest, well. That is exactly why there will (have to) be another part.

Outlook

In the next part of the review I will share my experiences on the topic: “Me and the installation of MacOS Catalina 10.15”. Then you will surely understand why I already referred to the Hackintosh forum at the beginning. It awaits you: the creation of a boot stick according to the principle “try and error”. Ok, helpful colleagues, why Unibeast is not necessarily the best choice to install MacOS and what you can do wrong with the Glover Bootloader, you will find out. Up to the maximum frustration limit!

And of course also how it finally came to a happy end and the Hackintosh now runs as it should run.  All I can say is: “Switch off the integrated GPU and plug the boot stick to another port” (quote: User Al6042, Hackintosh forum) Greetings at this point! We will also – parallel to the review – introduce the Hackintosh forum and a few moderators who are here to help. And of course Igor will also publish benchmarks for you, which will stand in direct comparison to the Apple Mac Pro 2019. You will have to be patient here, as the benchmarks have yet to be carried out. Of course on both systems!
