The world of Windows PCs and laptops is huge. But macOS is also very popular with some. The company Tuxedo, however, takes a different approach and offers Linux laptops. However, with CPUs from Intel and AMD, which demand a lot of performance and energy. Now, with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X processor, there is another alternative that can be used to power this laptop.
A prototype has already been unveiled at this year’s Computex. On the software side, their goal is to port TUXEDO OS with KDE Plasma to the ARM platform, which internally runs under the working title Drako. Let’s move on to the technical specifications. As already mentioned, a Qualcomm Snapdragon X processor is installed. This has 12 cores and a TDP of 20W. It also has a 14-inch with 16 IPS screen. The RAM is 32 GB LPDDR5X. The resolution is 2560×1600. The screen brightness is said to be up to 500 nits and has 100% sRGB. The laptop has an aluminum casing, weighs 1.36 kg and has a USB4 and HDMI port. The battery capacity is 50 Wh.
No more details have been revealed for the time being. In any case, it will be interesting to see what Tuxedo presents here in the future. The company emphasizes the performance of this Qualcomm Snapdragon X processor, which is also supposed to be energy-saving. Tuxedo also mentions that this processor can keep up with the competition and even outperforms the Apple M2 SoC. On the Qualcomm side, however, Tuxedo is well received, as they announced at a previous event that they want to make this processor available for Linux. However, it will take some time for the new laptop to be available on the market. There are several components that are currently simply missing, such as drivers or hardware. Nevertheless, customers can hope that this laptop will be available in December.
