The GAMING CLASSIC is a sub-variant of the GAMING series for Radeon 7900 GPUs. But there is also a SUPRIM model for the RTX 4090 series. The commonality of both cards is the fact that they use a last-generation cooling solution, possibly in the hope of saving money.

The SUPRIM Classic has just been officially launched in China. The amazing thing about this launch is the fact that it costs the same as the original model. This means a price of 15999 RMB (~2,355 USD) for the SUPRIM X in the official MSI store in China. It should be noted, however, that the original SUPRIM X model costs more elsewhere (16499 RMB at JD.com), so this could simply be a clumsily timed official promotion.

The current model features an updated Tri Frozr 3S cooling solution with Torx Fan 5.0, whereas the old model features Tri Frozr 2S and Torx 4.0 fans. In addition, the newer version has a vapor chamber, which is not present on the Classic version and which continues to rely on a solid copper heatsink. The same specifications apply to both models, i.e. identical clock rates and the same TDP, so there should be no difference in performance (as long as the specifications are taken into account).

In terms of design, the card looks identical to the RTX 3090 Ti SUPRIM series, which uses the same cooler and even has a 16-pin power connector, but if you look closer, you can see that the RTX 4090 no longer has an NVLink connector, making this the easiest way to tell the two models apart. And one last note: The RTX 4090 SUPRIM Classic is the only RTX 40 GPU with the old NVIDIA GeForce RTX logo. 😉
