The complete Big Navi UV Guide: Undervolting and power saving with the MorePowerTool simply explained | Practice

Frequency

Now we come to the frequency settings. Now it gets a little tricky, because Wattman and Treiber are now avowed opponents of the MPT. But you should know these functions and settings well, because some of them are not locked and other settings can be used for saving.

GFX Min/Max:

Currently, you can’t make any changes here that really take effect. If the value does not match the bios, the card will end up in “Fail Safe” mode. Attempts to outsmart this have failed for me.

SOC Min/Max:

Here you can change the clock rate of the SOC. If and which effects this has exactly, I do not know yet exactly. So far overclocking has proven to be pointless, but my tests on this are not yet complete. Maybe this improves the frame times. A lower saves minimal power.

Memory DPM:

Here you can change the different P-States of the memory. The only interesting thing about it is the DPM 3. Here you can set your memory clock that you would otherwise set in the Wattman. However, it may be worthwhile to lower it here and raise it again in Wattman, see the matter with the memory timings a little further up. Values above 1075 are accepted, but the card ends up in Fail Safe Mode again. This is also useful in connection with the Rage Mode which you can configure yourself. So you don’t need the Wattman for overclocking anymore.

Override curve

This value is currently uninteresting. This allows you to change the frequency curve that the card uses by default. You can do this in a much easier way by adjusting the min/max values (a&c) in Wattman and using the voltage slider (b).

This area will be interesting if we can install a modified bios on the cards in the future. Then you would have the possibility to adjust your frequency curve and flash it directly into the bios including other values like power limit, memory clock and others. I did that for example with my RX 5700 which uses a custom bios and I don’t have to set anything, card in and it runs as programmed. The ideal state.
