The first NVMe SSDs compatible with the latest PCI Express standard are now available from CFD Gaming. Even though platforms supporting this technology have been available to consumers for over a year, SSD manufacturers have not been in a hurry. Even months after AMD and Intel unveiled their latest and updated platforms with expanded support for PCIe Gen5 devices, there are hardly any such SSDs on the market.
For the Japanese retail market, CFD’s 2TB storage is the first, with other storage options to follow later. To solve the heat problem, CFD relies on a heat sink with a small fan. It is questionable whether this memory can also be used with a motherboard heatsink instead. According to @momomo_us, the fan ran at a very high speed during the tests, and much louder than the Intel boxed cooler for the Core i7-13700K processor used for this test. This is probably due to the high load during the memory tests. One can imagine that the fan is not consistently that loud, yet this is something consumers can expect when moving a lot of data.

The Quick benchmark with CrystalDiskMark confirms that the storage medium can easily exceed 10 GB/s sequential read and write speeds, exactly as promised by the manufacturer. However, it should be noted that smaller capacities have slightly lower write speeds (~9.5 GB/s).
In Japan, this 2 TB CFD storage is available now for around $385.
