Steelseries Prime Mini Wireless Mouse Review – Familiar in a small guise

Sensor

As already mentioned, the Prime Mini mouse has the Steelseries TrueMove Air sensor, which is known from Aerox 3 Wireless or Rival 5. This was developed and produced in collaboration with PixArt, the technical details are as follows:

It will probably be based on a modified PMW3360DM-T2QU or PMW3389DM-T3QU directly from PixArt.

As with the other mice with this sensor, tracking is absolutely decent and reliable. And even without a dedicated lift-off sensor, like the one built into the Prime+, you can really see the mouse shake with repeated lifting and setting down:

10x Lift-Off / 3000 DPI / Windows Cursor-Speed 6

So, unsurprisingly, you can’t do anything wrong with this sensor in combination with this mouse and tracking problems were neither noticed during fast flicks nor long movements.

Software

If the handful of available DPI profiles on the mouse itself aren’t enough, you’ll have to download Steelseries GG for Windows or Mac. In it, adjustments to the various settings and lighting can then be made quite conveniently. For my test of the mouse, I used version 11.2.0, which takes up 382 MB of disk space and requires an average amount of background memory:

There is still no way to define the installation path in the setup itself. If you connect the Prime Mini for the first time while the program is running, a separate firmware update for the mouse and wireless dongle is immediately offered.  Custom key bindings are saved and work in the background even without Steelseries GG active, but the lighting switches back to the rainbow without the software running.

The following settings are available for this mouse:

GG itself combines several software offerings from Steelseries and acts as a hub, in addition to the “Engine” section, “Moments” allows you to record and share gameplay footage. Furthermore, you still do some self-promotion and also offer integration via third-party plugins. Here is a brief tour of the program:

I would prefer to continue to offer the engine part separately as in the past, instead of imposing various functions that are unnecessary for many users. After installation, clip recording is also turned on automatically, here I think an opt-in on demand instead of manual opt-out is much better. The same applies to the activated data collection.
