Budget Wireless Gaming: Sharkoon Skiller SGM3 Gaming Mouse

If you've ever been looking for a mouse, keyboard or mouse pad online, you've probably heard of Sharkoon. Because their products are often very popular because of the comparatively low prices. The Skiller SGM3 is the latest offshoot of the SGM series and can currently be purchased online for just under 40 euros. It is a wireless gaming mouse that can also be operated wired and offers some attractive features.

Software

The software is simple and very clear, in the middle you can see a top-down view of the mouse with some numbered buttons. On the left, the key assignment can be adjusted. It is also possible to create macros. Under the key assignment, I see the battery level and below it is a profile manager in which an unlimited number of profiles can be stored.

On the right you will find the DPI settings combined with the RBG options. There are up to six DPI levels that can be set between 100 and 6000 DPI in 100 DPI levels. Each DPI level has its own color, which can also be chosen by the user. Of course, the colors are a good way to determine at which DPI level the sensor is currently set, but many users probably want the lighting more as an optical feature.

Therefore, the RBG lighting options here are rather less overgrown than I expected. Under the sensitivity I find the polling rate and can choose between 1000Hz, 500Hz, 250Hz and 125Hz. I clearly recommend the 1000Hz! Below this is an option to adjust the mouse speed in Windows and one level lower an option for double-click speed. And last but not least, I can also set the scroll speed here.

Wireless Features

The SGM3 can be operated both wirelessly and wirelessly, which in my opinion is a big plus. The range is very good, even if I had one or even two walls between mouse and receiver in the test I could still use the mouse without any problems. And the battery life is also very convincing: I was able to operate the mouse for more than 5 days with a minimum of 6 hours of continuous use without having to charge it.

Unfortunately, in wireless mode, I found a slight difference from wired mice in competitive FPS games, such as Counter Strike. In a response tester, I then found that the difference between wired and wireless is at least 4 and a maximum of 10ms. However, it has to be said that this delay is so minimal that I have not noticed it in any other game genre at all. So when you put it on it, you can feel a difference between wireless and wired. However, it is so small that in my opinion it does not affect the gaming experience.

However, data transmission is not the only "wireless feature" of the mouse: The Skiller SGM3 can be easily loaded on an inductive charging station. Personally, I found this feature particularly interesting, as I haven't heard of mice with such functionality in this price range before. Unfortunately, depending on the charging station, I had different results. At one station, the mouse was not registered every time I put it up for loading. On the second or third dishesing, however, it worked out without any problems. Since I do not have a mouse pad with built-in inductive load, I can't say anything more about the inductive charging at this point. According to manufacturer Sharkoon, however, it should be possible to operate the SGM3 on such a mouse pad.

Summary and conclusion

Especially in terms of its price, I am very satisfied with SGM3 from Sharkoon, because it offers a fair overall package. It is well processed and very appealing both visually and haptic. The buttons are well placed and make a solid impression. The sensor convinced me and in my opinion is far above what you are used to with "gaming mice" for less than 40 euros.

And if you consider the many features and applications, I find the Skiller SGM3 a very convincing product. So if you're looking for a gaming mouse that also offers wireless operation and doesn't want to pay huge amounts for it, you should consider Skiller SGM3.
