Sound Check
In fact, it has gone down well with our readers that we increasingly record the sounds that the tested input devices make during use. For this review I made the recordings myself for the first time and I apologize that they are probably a bit quieter than usual. Overall, the Drakonia II sounds a bit “hollow” and “shrill”, which will probably be largely due to the materials used for the price. But I don’t want to say that the mouse sounds like a 3€ chinese cracker – it just doesn’t sound as rich as a product of the upper price range.
5 x left click, 5 x right click, the whole thing twice.
Turn and press the scroll wheel
The three back buttons for Quickfire and DPI adjustment
And finally, the 6 shoulder buttons, which are especially interesting for MMO players.
Field test
I always conduct my practice test to evaluate mice the same way. After familiarizing myself with the mouse and working with it for a few hours, I’m writing down the experience I gained. Afterwards we play a few rounds of CS:GO for the gaming test and as a little bonus or precision test we “paint” a little in Paint.
Desktop use and first impression
When I first held the mouse, it immediately felt unexpectedly familiar. The relatively wide mouse somehow reminded me of the good old Logitech G9, which I had used for many years. Ergonomically, it goes more in the direction of an extra-wide G502, which also plays in a very similar league in terms of weight. Last but not least, the sensor used is more or less the same as in the G502, which is why the mice don’t have much of a difference in feel.
The scroll wheel is a bit flat and very smooth, but can score with a great grip and low noise. The smooth surface (especially the two main keys), on the other hand, takes a bit of getting used to.
By the way, the power consumption stays within limits even with the illumination turned up all the way, so you don’t have to worry about the USB port.
Gaming (CS:GO)
In the gaming test, I felt quite confirmed with my first impression. Again, the sensor and weight are very reminiscent of the G502 and thus delivered solid performance overall. I was shocked to find that these ultra-light mice probably screwed me up for the rest of my life, as the Drakonia II felt infinitely sluggish even without the tuning weights and I probably wouldn’t go for such a massive mouse for fast shooters today.
Due to my lack of MMO experience, I wasn’t able to put the mouse’s real parade discipline to the test, but I think the shoulder buttons are probably a handy thing for accessing spells and items . I had assigned the “standard functions” forward and back (in Explorer and Browser) to the buttons located in the usual places, because I was missing them practically immediately after plugging them in. I had placed a few macros and multimedia functions on the remaining four shoulder buttons, but I had not yet internalized them over the course of the test. I can very well imagine that the many keys could also be an extremely helpful addition in productive use (e.g. by assigning macros or key combinations for Excel and Co.).
Precision (Paint)
When drawing lines and shapes, I think you can make quick and uncomplicated statements about the precision of a mouse. Again, I noticed the heavy weight of the mouse negatively, because it requires a lot of energy to be set in motion and the inertia of the mass causes you to overshoot the target by a few pixels when “slowing down”. In fact, that’s exactly why I never hooked up my old G502 again after I got used to lightweights like the Light² 180. I would ask you to note that this is a personal preference and another tester might make fundamentally different statements at this point.
